Employment rights and support

Employment rights and support

Clear information about your rights at work, and confidential support from the Guild.

Many imams work without clear contracts, fair pay or proper procedures. Knowing your rights is the first step to putting things right.

Guidance

Read our plain-English guides below. They explain the general position under employment law in England, Wales and Scotland (Northern Ireland has separate legislation, which is similar in many areas but not identical).

Confidential support for members

If you are a member facing a problem at work, you can submit a confidential support request. A Guild representative will review it and contact you. Your request is only visible to you and to the authorised Guild staff handling it.

Important

  • The Guild provides general information and support. This is not legal advice, and the Guild does not currently provide legal representation.
  • Time limits are strict. Most employment tribunal claims must start with ACAS early conciliation within three months less one day of the problem (for example, dismissal). If you might have a claim, get advice promptly.
  • For free, impartial advice you can also contact ACAS (acas.org.uk, 0300 123 1100) or Citizens Advice.
