For mosques and employers
Fair Employer Charter
Most mosque committees want to do right by their imams. The Fair Employer Charter gives them a clear, public way to say so, and gives imams a simple way to recognise good employers.
Why sign?
- Attract good candidates. Your adverts on the Guild jobs board carry the Fair Employer badge.
- Good governance. Clear terms and fair procedures reduce disputes and support your trustees' duties.
- Show your community that you value the people who serve it.
How it works
- A trustee or authorised officer signs the six commitments below online.
- The Guild reviews the submission and may get in touch.
- Once approved, your organisation is listed below and your job adverts show the badge.
The Guild may remove a listing if an organisation does not keep its commitments. Signing is free.
The Guild's model contracts and guidance for mosque committees make the commitments straightforward to meet.
The six commitments
1
Written terms
Every imam and religious professional we engage has a written contract or statement of terms from their first day.
2
Fair pay
We pay at least the National Living Wage for every hour worked, on a fixed date, with payslips, and review pay every year.
3
Rest and leave
We guarantee at least one full day off a week, arrange cover for rest days and leave, and give at least 5.6 weeks' paid holiday a year.
4
Fair procedures
We have written grievance and disciplinary procedures that follow the ACAS Code, and we follow them.
5
Development
We support our imams' training and professional development, including reasonable paid time for it.
6
Respect and wellbeing
We treat our imams with respect, act on bullying and harassment, and take their wellbeing seriously.
