UK Imams Code of Conduct

The standards every Guild member affirms, when joining and every year.

Draft for review. This policy is starter text supplied with the platform. The Guild's trustees or founding team must review it, and take professional advice where appropriate, before launch.

As a member of the UK Imams Guild, I will:

  1. Act with integrity — be honest, keep my commitments and avoid conflicts of interest.
  2. Safeguard others — put the safety and wellbeing of children and adults at risk first, follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns to the appropriate person or authority.
  3. Respect confidentiality — keep confidential what is shared with me in my role, except where the law or safeguarding requires otherwise.
  4. Keep professional boundaries — avoid relationships, gifts or arrangements that could compromise my role.
  5. Treat people fairly — show respect to all, without discrimination, harassment or bullying.
  6. Work within my competence — recognise the limits of my knowledge and refer people to qualified professionals (for example, legal, medical or counselling services) where appropriate.
  7. Keep learning — maintain and develop my knowledge and skills.
  8. Uphold the reputation of the profession — conduct myself in a way that maintains trust in imams and in the Guild.

Concerns about a member's conduct can be raised through our complaints procedure.
